Our message is simple; it's one of abundance. What we know for sure is that there are more than enough beds, couches and appliances to go around to those in need. The key is connecting donors with those in need.

In 2005, my sister Deborah Waggoner and I established Sisters of the Community, the parent nonprofit of DonorsResource.org, to provide low-income families with clothing, toys, books and other basic needs. After distributing 20,000 items within 18 months we put some serious knowledge under our belts and learned a lot.

The majority of nonprofits that may be set up to help those in need of services for animals, domestic violence, food, education or housing, to name just a few, do not have magic little closets filled with needed goods. In fact, what we found is that not only do nonprofits have no space for extras, they have no time or manpower to dedicate to scrounging around for needed items.

Then you have many generous donors who want to give, but don't know where or how, but who want to be sure that what they are giving is actually going to those in need.

Enter stage left, DonorsResource.org, closing the gap between donors and nonprofits. In addition to individual donors, we are also seeing nonprofits post items. We are focused on doing this one thing amazingly well.

Personally, it's been exciting to post items, have them claimed and seeing first hand
that this model of giving really is fun and rewarding!

It's all about social responsibility and providing opportunities to be a
part of giving and receiving, for real.
