Our message is simple; it's one of abundance. What we know for sure is that there is more than enough to go around. We connect donors who want to give in-kind donations with nonprofits that need them. In 2005, my sister Deborah Waggoner and I established Sisters of the Community, the parent nonprofit of DonorsResource.org, to provide low-income families with basic household goods. After distributing 20,000 items within 18 months, SOC realized the need for an online solution. This model of giving works because School House Supplies, the leading connection for school supplies in 130 Portland-area schools, claimed 400 notebooks. Because Albertina Kerr, advocates for kids and families with health disabilities, claimed over 50 jackets and sweaters for children in need. Because Impact Northwest, an agency working with others to maintain self-sufficiency, claimed a bed, a chair, a grill, and a lamp for a single mother who had just obtained stable housing. People have items and want to give to those in need. We make the connection, touch our entire community and provide opportunities to give and to serve. I’m a "go big or go home" kinda girl and the mission is to be the nation’s conduit for in-kind donations. Keeping it real, Della Rae della@DonorsResource.org See Della's Blog Here! |
